A Promise

Therefore we do not lose heart. Though outwardly we are wasting away, yet inwardly we are being renewed day by day. For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all. So we fix our eyes not what is seen but what is unseen. For what is seen is temporary but what is unseen is eternal  2 Corinthians 4:16-18

I was thinking of this passage of
scripture the other day, Maryann.
Aging is sometimes a difficult
thing for many. I can't understand
how anyone can look at these clay
bodies and see the changes as we
age and not turn to the Lord. We
are slowly wasting away, growing
closer to death daily. And yet...
because of Him we are being re-
newed daily in our real self, our
spirit man. Such glorious comfort!
Blessings~

Being 66 years old and having been diagnosed with ovarian cancer almost 3 years ago, I have often been comforted by this verse. I think we all recognize by middle age, at least, that we will grow older and die. But somehow our expectations of "old" are too optimistic...such a long way down the road. When cancer strikes, we are brought abruptly to our mortality, and once we have cancer, it is as if we can never again go back to "not thinking about what cancer is bringing us to."
Thanks for posting this verse.

I feel as if I'm wasting away. Between my physical struggle and some other struggles that I have right now, that's exactly the word to describe it.

What a verse to speak to my spirit this morning. Thanks.
