Change Can Be Good

Back in January I had decided to pick a "formal" Bible reading plan. Never done one in the past, I am not a very structured person, my previous routine was to follow along with an audio reading, or I would study a particular book of the bible or sometimes I would just read at random.

The beginning of the year we were encouraged to pick a bible reading plan. I found a devotional from D.A.Carson, For the Love of God, it followed the M'Cheyne daily reading plan...the goal was to read the bible in a year. Well its been a month, time to evaluate how its going.

I have found that I probably need a five year plan. The devotional is good, but there are times when I feel like I would like to linger in a certain section for a while and other times, I would like to continue reading on to finish a section. The plan is not working for me...does that surprise anyone who knows me well?

I will continue to use the DA Carson devotional, but only as a guide. I want the freedom to go at my own pace and if I want to veer off in another section of the bible for whatever reason I want to feel like I can do that.  I still enjoy listening and following along to an audio version of the Bible, so will probably do that some days... Oh and there are some studies I want to do... just going to trust the Lord to direct me each day.

Your testimonies are wonderful; therefore my souls keeps them. The unfolding of your words gives light; it imparts understanding to the simple  Psalm 119:129-130

I think reading plans are to encourage us to taste of God's word -- to develop a love for it. Not that it comes natural to the carnal minded, but as a gift of God's grace. So when a reading plan becomes a chore than it can defeat that beautiful purpose. I don't think you should have to stick to a plan, especially if you're drawn to other parts of God's great word! Blessings!

Good morning...I tried this once with very similar results, though I do know some who this works quite well for. Guess it just depends. I myself have found that I am a "lingerer" (is that a word, haha) Anyway, so long as we are in it everyday huh? Have a wonderful week-end HUGS

Now, you are girl after my heart because we sound so much alike.....I too like to linger on a few Scriptures and you can't get through the Bible in a year that way. It's good to try new things and ways of studying but God knows how He made us and thank goodness we can trust that He will guide each step of our daily walk, including our study time....

Have a great weekend...

I don't think it's as important HOW we read the word but only that we actually DO read it. I love to linger on a few passages, chew on them during the day, study them out at night. I am listening on line but just going at my own pace.
Blessings~

I am so glad we walk under grace and not law. Those plans haven't worked for me, mainly because I will get stuck somewhere..start hearing God and then start on a rabbit trail with the Lord, which usually isn't going in order like the book...but Hey, it produces life for me and I stay in His word more.

Blessings as He continues to talk with you through His word in whatever method you find works for you.

There are so many rich Truths to be gleaned from God's Word, it is a shame to *rush* through it. I do see the value in having a reading plan, but if it takes more than a year to get through it all...no worries! Take the time you need to really dig into the Word. What a blessing that we have it!!

Blessings to you Maryann!
In HIS Love,
Camille
