Watcha Reading?

I am looking for a new bible reading plan for this year and our pastor recommended this site.   http://thegospelcoalition.org/blogs/justintaylor/2011/12/27/bible-reading-plans-for-2012/
it has several reading plans to chose from.

I have to admit I have not totally decided on a plan yet. (I like having some direction versus just reading at random) I have used an audio bible reading for the last couple of years but they change translations every week and I feel like I want to do something different this year. I know the year has already started and I should have thought about this sooner but life always seems to get ahead of me.

I am also trying to put together a list of books I would like to read this year, I have a couple on my list but I would love some feedback on any other recommendations.

My List
  1. As Silver Refined by Kay Arthur
  2. Jesus Plus Nothing Equals Everything by Tullian Tchividjian (the sermon series was excellent)
As you can see it's not much of a list that's why I am asking for input. I hope to be able to get a little more reading done this year, at least that's the goal.

What are you reading, what are some of your favorites? Not looking for fiction,  interested in books that could be considered food for the soul, any recommendations?

I know what you mean about deciding on a Scripture reading program for the coming year...I was discussing that with a friend today...still not sure....

Here are a few book suggestions; I have read them and they are all good...

As Silver Refined is an excellent book as is anything she writes....
Abundant Simplicity and When the Soul Listens
both by Jan Johnson
Worthy Vessels: Clay in the Hands of the Master Potter by Neil Kennedy....an old book but one of my favorites.
One Thousand Gifts by Ann Voskamp
I Saw the Lord: A Wake Up call for the Heart
by Ann Graham Lotz as well as Just Give Me Jesus by Ann

I hope you find some that inspire you...All of these encouraged and help me grow in my faith....

I'm looking for some ideas for my reading list, too. I've got a couple of pieces of fiction that I'm waitlisted for at the library, but one of my goals for 2012 is to grow in my faith, so I'm looking for good books that will help me in that goal.

I am still soaking in Kay Arthur...I hope you are ministered to also.

I am reading A Circle of Quiet by Madeleine L'Engle..this is the first time for me to read her and I am really enjoying it

I am beginning The Resolution for Woman by Priscilla Shirer...my daughter and daughter-in-law are also reading it.

Keep us posted on what you are reading...

I decided this year that I would listen to the Bible all the way through and read and study daily but randomly. I found a site called The Streaming Bible and I love it so far. I can sit and listen to a dramatized version and read along at the same time if I choose.
As far as books, I rarely read fiction but love the meaty books that get me thinking. Some favorites through the years have been-
Holiness, Truth and the Presence of God-Francis Frangipane, The Power of the Blood of Christ-Andrew Murray and Crazy Love-Francis Chan. There are so many more but at the moment these stick out. Oh, and of course, Hinds Feet On High Places!

How lovely that you are asking for ideas Maryann! That's a good idea. :)

As for the Bible reading plan...Rober Murray McCheyne's reading through the Bible in a year is a good one. It covers 4 chapters a day.

Books. Oh there are SO many good ones, aren't there?

"Trusting God" by Jerry Bridges is a *must read* according to my husband. (Confession...I haven't read it yet). We have given a few copies away and the recipients have said how blessed they were by it.

I also LOVE C.H. Spurgeon's "Morning and Evening" devotional...I wouldn't be without it!!

Have a blessed New Year!
Happy Reading!

Camille
