The Story Continues

I mentioned in my last post that there was a "bump in the road" in Sweet lady's recovery from her surgery. Days before we were scheduled to fly out to see our grandchildren, she had to be readmitted to the hospital and a second surgery done....we were devastated.

When things like this happen, I find myself looking for what God is doing, holding fast to Romans 8:28

"And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose"

That particular scripture, plus the belief I have that God is sovereign over all things gave me comfort. I knew that this did not come as a surprise to God and that he was going to use it for his purposes. Regardless tears were shed. My head knew truth but my heart was disappointed.

I questioned what the God was trying to teach me through it all, was it that I hold "my plans" with a clenched fist and I needed to release them. (I still like control) Would I be willing to do that? (in this case the plans were to see the Grands) It was tough, my husband and I talked about one staying home and the other going, but in the end we decided either both go or both stay home.

Sometimes God lets you see his purposes right way, sometimes you may never understand. I still don't understand the whys to all of this but there are good things I can report

We were home and able to take care of all the details, like getting her to doctor, getting her to the hospital she had her first surgery done at and talking to discharge planner at the hospital. We also were able to make plans about what would happen after she was discharged from hospital.

We knew she would be well taken care of and the timing of the second surgery was such that we could be there for her and still go and see our Grands. (we made the decision to go hours before we were scheduled to leave)

This is not the end of the story, Sweet Lady is still in the process of healing and there is going to be some recovery time, the future is uncertain, as it is for all of us. Taking one day at a time for now, holding on to Romans 8:28

Isn't it so true? We want control. I can so relate to this! How precious it is to walk the path of life with our Saviour Who gently teaches us the things we need to know along the way. Resting in Him is a sweet lesson to be taught...isn't it? So sorry you had this trial to go through. So blessed to read that the Lord carried you through and gave you grace. And...SO happy for you that you still got to GO to the Grands!! Hugs, Camille

Oh my, relinquishing control is such a difficult thing for me to do. And I'm so glad that you were able to do what you needed to help Sweet Lady and still get to see your grands. Praise God. And I'll be praying for her recovery/healing.

How well I can relate to this! Especially when the plans involve something as longed for as a visit to the grands. But to KNOW every little thing and every little detail is in his ultimate control does help so much. Soo glad that you were there for her when you needed to be, but STILL got to go and see those precious grands! God is good! Praying for a speedy recovery now for your sweet lady!

That verse is a favorite of mine.

'All things' develops trust in the One who does the working out, for good.

Bless you for sharing with us. Bumps in the road can certainly cause us to stop and wonder about where we are going; I love that your eyes are on Him and He will direct your path. May Sweet Lady heal quickly and may you continually see His hand in all of this.
Hugs,
Noreen

Hello, All I can say is that you have taken it all in stride... I do hope all goes well for your friend! It is funny how fast the days go and when we have to change plans, it feels a bit frustrating!
Take care and enjoy your weekend!
Blessings, Roxy

Oh, I think your thoughts resonated with several of us on the whole "control issue." It is so, so difficult and you are so right, we may never understand this side of eternity. May Sweet Lady find renewed health in the days ahead. Blessings!

Praying for sweet lady this morning and for your family. Control issue is a biggy for most of us if we'd be honest. I heard once that Control and Pride works well together! One to think about for sure. I remember reading Debbie Taylor Williams books called: A Plan A women in a Plan B world....and it was mainly talking about what to do when Plan A doesn't work out...how to handle it...what to focus on. A Good read for me. Thinking of you today sweet lady. Hugs and blessings, Cindy
