Waiting, a Means Of Grace

I am reading a couple of books this summer, one of them is Broken Down House Living Productively in a World Gone Bad by Paul David Tripp. There are some books that take me time to go through, this is one of them. It is full of truths that you have to marinate in before you move on. I have not made much progress in this book since I came to this passage

"Waiting is one of God's most powerful tools of grace. God doesn't just give us grace for the wait. The wait itself is a gift of grace. You see, waiting is not only about what you will receive at the end of the wait. Waiting is about what you will become as you wait.
In calling us to wait, God is rescuing us from our own bondage to our own plan, our own wisdom, our own power, our own control. In calling us to wait, God is freeing us from the claustrophobic confines of our own little kingdoms of one and drawing us into a greater allegiance to his Kingdom of glory and grace. Waiting is more than being patient as situations and other people change. Waiting is about understanding that you and I desperately need to change, and that waiting is a powerful tool of personal change. God is using the grace of waiting to change us at the casual core of our personhood, the heart. Now that's a good thing"

If you are me, there are things in your life that you are waiting to change, this passage gives us the bigger picture of it all. Would you have thought God would use "the wait" as a means of change in your life. Just something to ponder. Have you seen this to be true in things that you have had to wait for?

What a great word of confirmation...goes with my post on Monday on being still before God...and yes, I am waiting, and I need the bigger picture. I am going to copy this and put it in my journal.

This time last year I finished Tripp's book on Mid-age...it was good, right now I am on "Surprised by Grace"...which this quote goes with also.

Thanks for sharing, God is faithful to confirm His work in each of our lives.

I've been in that room so many times I've actually decorated it!

There have been seasons of waiting. Some have come & gone; the waiting long over. Others linger still; and the wait, at times, feels like weight. But I know that I know that I know that what is wrought in the wait is often more glorious than what is wrought in the scurry.

Great post!

Yep, when He has had me in the waiting room, it is always about changing my will to that of His and if I had just given in in the beginning I would have been better off but He keeps me waiting just because I want my way and not His.
Waiting rooms are always my least favorite place to be, but I always have the most life changing experiences there.
Very good post.

This is such an encouraging quote. The one thing that I remember from Sunday's sermon is God's timing -- to help us to stay our minds and hearts on Him and not our plans, deliverance, healing, family member, etc. I'll have to get this book! Blessings!

I'm sitting in frustrating in the waiting room right now about two critical things. I really, really appreciate this message and needed to read it.

I got my vinyl letters at Hobby Lobby...they also sell them through ebay, and etsy. I have stenciled words...and even used sharpie pens on the wall...have fun which ever you use, since we are renting I needed something that could be removed easily.

You know Maryann, I did freak out.
It was beyond anything that had ever happened before and I don't think I ever want to repeat it. I really like my chickens though.
Thanks for your comment it made me smile. I hope you have a very nice weekend.

Maryann,
Thank you for sharing from this book. I enjoy most of Tripp's writings, and this sounds like it would be so encouraging for my Mom right now, too.
